To Bring It Home

It was clear to both of us
from the beginning
that my place was never
there with you at all;
for you knew that the reality
you lived within
was falling all apart,
shattering amid explosions
never under your control.

Somehow we found each other though
and loved ourselves beyond
that time and space you called your own,
into a world where love was free
to be and live and grow;
and I will never know or understand
the choices that you made that day
you threw it all away.

Now, no matter how our loving memories
tease and tempt me once again
to join you there, I know so true,
as strongly as I knew at the beginning
that my place was never there with you
wounded mid the battles
that still you choose to fight.

While yet, this love, so heaven sent
cries out to me to bring it home again
and so I seek to simply bring it
home again in me...
