At a Distance

Love at a distance turns into no more
than an insatiable, unforgivable longing.
Wanting, needing, intimate companionship
down to the level of sensation that must
touch in time and space.

We dream our dreams, yet know deep
down, they never will come true.
To see, to hear, to feel, yet never
to be real enough to touch.

A sometimes things, at best, and then,
the yearning just expands again;
until the want and need are all we know.
Shattered, we await another day of love
that's real - as we sleep into dreams' misty
realms, imagining a future memory.

Waking every day to find,
that still, we are alone,
even as we reach to feel
this loving at a distance...
