Dark spots on the sun -
that was the mortal observation.
Illumined, so they claimed to be,
not knowing of their limitations.

They thought, perhaps, a telescope,
or some mechanical devise,

might exist in their own eye.
So alas, the wisdom never came
to pass through such a lens.
Yet the stars, unbound within
the skies of indigo, shine on.
Why didn't they...?
