Utter Distance

Distantly, a star was born-
tender aura gleaming on.
Far, so far - it seemed
so all alone.

Shining out, it reached and reached
and tried to find a way to breech
the echoes of what seemed
an utter distance.

It could not speak, it knew not how.
Yet, in its reach, it grew somehow.
I see it in the spring each year.
It keeps me moving on.

We have a bond, that star and I -
Eye of light to eye of sky.
In it, I have found much healing.
Looking up into the night, I found
the utter distance of a close
and loving friend...
