A Giant Step

A giant step, from here to there.
The ups and downs, home-grown despair.
Another plateau reached by greater
powers than a mind alone can dream.

Spirit seeking brightness in an ever-darkened sky.
Souls that never come to know just why.
Life moving on, but then shot down, in prime.
Searching for a moment of that ecstasy divine.

They used to love to dance upon the moon.
Starlit skies the backdrop of their doom.
Mountain peaks, plateaus that breech
the symmetry of world meeting sky.

They traveled on until the sun refused to move.
Air too thin, the frost began to gather on their skin.
Looking down, the golden valley sighed its last goodbye.
Enclosed within a tower, all the observations gathered
were a lie.

Experience cannot be real to those who never feel.
The Aspens sang a long lost melody.
Searching for the diamond dust of synchronicity.
Upon the throne, the jeweled crown
was covered in the musty dust of age.

They could not find the strength to rage again.
Once blessed by all the magic majesty.
Now emptiness became the sound of free.
Civilized - the ice had come to stay.

Running through their veins into a heart
once heated by the loving joy of nature.
Too little, and a lot too late - the pearly
gates had been destroyed for good.

And in their place, this emptiness took root.
Motorized, their vehicles sped on.
It seemed that they were always on the run.
Like moths drawn to the heat of flame,
sifting through the ash of their remains.

Sparkling, the particles lived on.
Drifting in a breeze that sought the sun.
They had to come to live the loss
that all their gains proclaimed.

A giant step, from here to there.
The ups and downs, home-grown despair.
Another plateau reached by greater
powers than a mind alone can dream.

Another dawn, the love moved on.
"Catch me if you can," it whispered,
leading them into eternity...
