The doctors called it
the dreamtime that she lived so happily.
Yet there she felt entirely complete,
while reality was just a nightmare scene,
refusing her the sleep that dreaming needed.
They never knew exactly just the point
that she slipped into the final coma.
He'd promised her forever
then silently added "someday"
just before he quickly walked away.
Speaking in a voice that only
he could hear expressed,
made of soft but salient whirring
of the many cogs that ran into
his intellectual translation.
Of course, that someday
never came to be,
but that one word
she never heard
for like tomorrow
someday never came...
