Dream into Reality

Has it happened yet...?
The happening.
I must have been asleep.
Or mesmerized by all the many
images that flashed on my TV.

The latest movie found its way
into my very dreams. I woke up
in a sweat that held the scent
of great extremes.

A smothered voice was screaming
out. The violence was real.
The numbness fading quickly into
pure and unadulterated streams
of living pain.

Outside, I spied the dark and stormy
dullness of the clouds. Gathering
in ominous decree. Life went on,
and yet I was suspended.

Somewhere in between it all.
It all felt so unreal.
Whispering, the secrets came.
Untamed, the chaos crept
up from behind.

Echoes bent on deafened tone.
Thought solitary and alone.
Reaching for the center of it all.
And then, the headiness began
to fall. Dizzy heights in need
of the stability of earth.

The world seemed to stall
for just one infinite, unending
moment. Time was running
blindly out of sync.

Numbers flashed, equations altered.
Zero once, the balance faltered.
From the black, a deep, dark red
was born. Debits turned to credits
here. The end and the beginning
had drawn perilously near.

Startled out of deepest sleep,
the dreams were found to be
reality. Not paradise, but rather
all the fright of the unknown -
refusing to be pushed down
anymore.

The sun would rise and fall,
yet never enter into eyes.
The wind, a mourning call
of great unease.

Unprepared, they stood in shock,
as all the world began to rock
and roll. Insane, the dance
became hysteria.

Has it happened yet...?
The happening.
I must have been asleep.
Or mesmerized by all the many
images that flashed on my TV.

What's happening...?
Oh no - the dream was real...
