Let It Happen

Pasty-faced, he listened to the verdict that they read.
Guilty was the general consensus.
Convoluting all the theories long ago embraced.
His daughter went to jail in his stead.

Stories of the alien invasion had grown old.
On steamy nights, he shivered with a cold.
Bold was never on his list of ever meant to be.
Courage never would befit his childish misery.

Fires of desire had turned all the world
into a spray of ashen hues.
Internal, his machinery was jammed.
Hope scattered to the winds of time
and he, another clone of modern mind.
