Of Loneliness

For the sake of the children
they buried their needs.
Implanting unspent seeds
of loneliness.

Where once the feeling
of twice blessed had lived,
the objects of their spite
lent unforgiving empathy.

The dark side rose
into a twilit dawn.
The shadows grew
where icy cold had numbed
their feelings into rote routine.

Where love once grew,
the tones of a machine
droned on and on.
Gears greased by all
the tragedy they spawned.

For the sake of the children
they buried their needs.
Hearts beating in their schemes
of loneliness...
