Of Opposites

A sphere of light burned brightly
as the darkness started closing in.
Mesmerized, they stood and watched,
suspended in the whirl and spin
of opposites attracting.

No one could ever really say what happened.
It mattered not, the ramblings of the press.
The scientists and doctors were upended
and lost within the heavy, murky mist.
Another kind of dream was being spun,
as the financiers imploded, one by one.

Golden idols on the alter started melting.
Liquidity becoming physicality again.
High-flung ideals drifted out of sight.
Identities were changing fast, struggling
to just survive the strife. Too much,
to quick, the mercury would dip and rise,
aiding every altered compromise.

One by one, society was coming all undone.
Prohibition a necessity, they learned to live without.
Muttering, the murmurs turned to shouts.
Echoes repeating, dear and yet deleted high desire.
Hell born on earth in the heat of the fire.
Pressure building, chaos wilting every ordered pair.

A sphere of light burned brightly
as the darkness started closing in.
Mesmerized, they stood and watched,
suspended in the whirl and spin
of opposites attracting violence...
