The Altering

Time and space, the altering -
as distance reached a point of no return.
The arches of their rainbow dreams dissolved.
Freedom was a feeling that they weren't privy to.
Ordered will was all they were allowed.

Calendars, appointment books. Endless rules
that followed them into their chosen lairs.
A chair must be for sitting, so they said.
The grass began to grow between their toes.
Tickling, inviting them to come to know
the natural again.

Scent of wild clover come to set them
on their way. It didn't cost a penny
just to play in rhapsody. Wild flowers,
bent on their ascension. Long and wet,
the grasses bent, where once two lovers lay.

Memories returning to reveal an alternative.
Fading as reality crashed in. Strength
arrayed in shadow lands, where all their
plans became the pain of ages lived
without the loving theme
that they once dreamed.

Time and space, the altering -
as distance reached a point of no return.
The arches of their rainbow dreams dissolved.
Where were they now that love
had left them there...?
