And Then

And then came the rain.
Unending drops of water -
wishing, wanting to amend
the core of pain their lives
were somehow based upon.
It washed away the sadness.
as it softened all the fear.
It hid the sight of what
was drawing near.

The light of day, the dark of night.
A plague of gray - suspended, out of sight.
Eternal rays of sun struck down
the walls they'd gathered round.
Lost within the heavy fog, they
had to finally face the truth
of all that they'd done wrong.

It never mattered, what the rules had been.
For the greatest sins of all had lived
within their guarded, hardening of hearts.
At last, their web of lies became undone.
It lost the fight of all they thought they'd won.
Pure reason overtaken by the power
of mistaken revolutions.

And then came the rain.
Unending drops of water
still unable to amend
the store of yet more pain
that all their human strife
retained, in equity...
