Death Lives On

Her death lives on inside her.
Skin sagging over bones without
a muscle in between. I cannot
help but wonder why she just
keeps hanging on.

Is there some forgiveness she is waiting for...?
Some long lost words hurled long ago still
stalking her in dreams. A memory of love
left far behind. When will she find her way
back home to those she misses most?

The cancer feeds on any nourishment she takes.
Its hunger never sated, deep inside.
Wizened looks of suffering are filling up her eyes.
And then she cries. And cries. And cries.
Refusing to let go just yet - but why...?

While her death lives on inside her.
Growing bolder in the passing time.
Skin sagging over bones without
a muscle in between. Can you feel
the pain that she holds in?
She is your only mother, after all...
