Expanding on the Theme

The greatest love a man can give
lies in restraint of passion. Slowing
all the heavy rush residing deep inside
of him. Loving her enough to hold
the quiet flow her love begot within
his quivering hand.

Building, slowly building, and then
drawing back again. Simmering amid
the pain his passion seethed to end.
To find a pace that pleased her too.
To move beyond the strong and crude.
Respecting every difference that danced
there, between them, so seductively.

Halting when the fear arose.
Finding in his mind, the prose
that rose so easily to comfort her.
Sitting in a silence, barely touching.
Reaching out to meet her trembling.
Realizing what he meant to do
would change her more than ever
any man would change for her.

Letting go the apropos.
Feeling mighty streams of great emotion.
Floating, even as the power swept them
both along. Listening, and hearing that
sweet song of love that always sang
within his beating heart whenever she
was near. And all of this was just the start -
rising from the slightest touch. As fear
released between them was unleashed.
It sheathed him in an altered consciousness.

Would he believe...? Beyond a doubt
that love was real and true. The power
of it crushed her as she wondered if
this time, love would live through the many
battles that he loved to live by day.
But the choice was never really hers
to make. How could she not surrender
to the basic pull he concentrated
mightily on her...?

This time, she could not help it.
She surrendered. Knowing, deep inside,
that all his pain would live itself through
her somehow. The touch they shared
was strong enough to live into forever.
Yet still, there was a quiver, never hers.
Hidden in the dues he'd never paid.
Secreted in the sultry ways he held her.
Hidden deep in shadows that he always
had betrayed.

Not very long in time, she felt the change.
As he slowly backed out of their loving ways.
But she still could not believe that he
would throw away a love of so much worth.
And so, the day he walked away,
the backrush of his secret ways undid her.
Pain too severe, the shockwave veered.
It couldn't last forever. And yet the past
would never leave them free.

He reveled in his misery.
Such was the manly deed.
While she succumbed to all
the secrets hidden in insensitivity.
Days to weeks to months to years.
He'd left her with unending tears.
For he chose to live his life without that love.
Deeming passion just a movement
of some greater force he might conveniently
reveal within another stale business deal.

'Twas then she knew the answer true.
That the greatest love a man can give
lies in restraint of passion. Slowing
all the heavy rush residing deep inside
of him. Loving her enough to hold
the quiet flow her love begot within
his quivering hand. Willing all his life
to keep expanding on the theme...
