Stole the Breath

They went into hiding again.
Thinking that they could outlive
the trends they had created.
Their bunkers were exploding
and the terror that they used to think
was under their control, was growing
all too real within their souls.

Still running from the consequences.
But never quite outdistancing the feel.
The worst of all their fears had grown
too real. The background noise
was drowning out the dying shouts
of all they used to be. Society
would not uphold the death
that was foretold.

Searching for the great elixir.
Alchemical reactions reaching in.
Changing all the movements and
the spin of their survival. Reaching
once again for the enlightenment
they'd found in living light. Retinas
well-burnt with the fiery rays of sun.

They went into hiding again.
Thinking that they could outlive
the trends they had created.
Their bunkers were exploding
while the terror that they used to think
was under their control, was growing
all too real within their souls.

Another burst of fear, and then,
the running stole the breath of life
from them...
