The Great Denial

Immense - the sensate beast.
Gentle, the beginning
of such ardent cruelty.
The promises it never meant to keep
The pain still unresolved through
all the weeping and the rage.

Upon the stage, the horror swept
through realms yet unperceived;
darkening the light of healing.
The best undone, as all the worst
took center stage within their play.

Youth brought down to no more
than a spawn of what might be.
Unseen, the travesty kept building -
deep inside the destiny they dreamed.
Worth lay deep within the shadowland
of unrecorded plans based in beliefs
.that always were, at base, one-sided.

They couldn't see the shadows
being born. Holding tight to days of old,
the blight became another's misery.
It mattered not, the source they blamed -
just so their names would sparkle, once again,
before the end took hold of their society.

The web they spun was covering their eyes.
They couldn't see the storm clouds in the sky.
Power, so illusive, that the base of their control
was held within mere reveries of old.
Youth that fought the wisdom sought
in innocence that once sought bold -
beyond the failed image.

Higher than a kite, the path they sought.
Removing them from gross reality.
Sensations for too long ignored
were seething in their pores.
No longer could they sense
the peril waiting in the wings.

They took to flight, all unprepared
for prophecies that dared them to behold
the shimmer of a light more sure than gold.
Rising o'er the awe of vast horizons.
Unburdened, the projection of their fear.
Until their nature turned it all around
and spoke their fear.

Immense, yet sensate beast.
Gentle, the beginning
of such ardent cruelty.
The promises it never meant to keep.
The pain still unresolved through
all the ages of defeated variations.
The battles came and went.
The loss and gain of victory
were overspent again.

Immense, the great denial
of the awesome power
of the sensate beast.
Living far beyond the hours
depleted by their reckoning of time...
