light is fading, slow and sure,
negating memories of yore.
Each endless path is leading to our death.
Remembering we'd done our best
back in the days when energy
flowed freely through our flesh.
Another sigh. Not knowing
which goodbye would be the last.
Tears pooling at the bottom
of an endless waterfall. When
every height we ever reached
reversed itself into defeat.
We sit forgotten here.
As younger generations increase speed
in an incremental fear of this disease.
Sometimes they call it growing old.
While doctors still invent new words
to scare them all away. Even those
we called our family. Swept away
upon a wave that's rolling over
our reality. They say they're free.
Closer, closer, to eternity.
Reaching in to find the hidden light.
Reaching back through dreams
that haunt the night.
Now reaching out again to find
there is no hand to lead us on.
Her empty eyes are all that I can see.
And I wonder if I'll ever find
a way back to the light I knew
before she flew into eternity...
