Could Not Exist

Massacred by unmet need.
Moisture wrung from cells and seeds.
Barren womb of muted mystery.
Her love could not exist in history.
Manmade facts of harvest claimed
the moon and sun and stars
had all been tamed.
By microscopic logic laid
upon a golden throne.
The earth was groaning
under man's discoveries.
A piercing - quick.
The laser reached the core.
A moment's agony and then the roar.
Divided down to nothing. Wanting more.
Science turned them into gods.
They bleached the fields that they had trod.
White lightning killing within a bright refrain.
Where even human life could not remain.
Taken back, the past revealed their sins.
Secretive, mind's twisted acronyms.
A blast of light. Then night would win again.
Massacred by unmet need.
Moisture wrung from cells and seeds.
Barren womb of muted mystery.
It seemed Her love could not exist
within man's history...
