Suddenly

Long and long, the path winds on.
From golden shores to silent ponds.
Bright light shines on mountains high.
The valleys brood within a sigh.

She had a dream within a dream.
She thought she heard the angels sing.
Oh beauty, leave me not to waking.
Synchronous, the wave pain-staking.

Within a blur, the nightmare came.
Backing out. Cheeks stung with shame.
She'd never meant to hurt another there.
Rain pouring down upon the roses fair.

Round the stems, the thorns remained
in crimson shadows, still enflamed.
While in between the drops of rain,
she flees from actions left untamed.

"Now I lay me down to sleep," she prays.
Lily white amid the tinted pain.
Suffering for acts of sweet deceit.
Listening to choruses repeat .

Beauty into sorrow swaying.
Autumn fell. The sky was graying.
A single streak of sun broke through.
Luminous, the winds that blew
so suddenly into eternity...
