The Strangest Thing

And perhaps the strangest thing of all,
was that after all the engraved misery
of his enchantment, she really didn't
want him back at all.

His fawning attitudes of endearment
once his whining finally stopped.
His faint but lively telling of ideas
that would blast her hope away.

The gist of his emotions dumped
on her. The way he never stirred
on her behalf. At the level of heart,
where everything remained unequal.

She loved him as he backed away.
Hacking her way through the shadows
spawned. Staying awake past the dawn
of the laws he transgressed.

To find perhaps the strangest thing of all.
That after all the misery, she really didn't
want him back at all...
