Too Great

The chemistry of souls that share it all.
(The joining and the parting and the fall.)
A mist of love in colors of the fall.
(The rising up again. The starting small.)

A hand to hold. A love untold in words.
(If only they could say it right out loud.)
With secrets in its glaring depths.
(Conceived by one unearthly kiss.)

The eyes, a high that must be met.
(A shiver growing deeper yet.)
A glow surrounded everything they did.
(To show the many others that love lived.)

A sigh from up on high. They never knew.
(Oh angel mine, you're leaving all too soon.)
Getting tough. A hardened heart.
(To end it all before it really starts.)

Denying the beginning yet again.
(It seems so clear. It didn't then.)
Attraction spread too far, too wide.
(Elastic moments pushed aside.)

Time grew in their weathered veins like ore.
(Oh love, we aren't younger anymore.)
Time passing in a cloud of dust.
(They tell us move. We think we must.)

Emptying a dark red cup of lust.
(The wound became infected. Feelings tossed.)
Defeated by the ever rising cost.
(Those games were never won, just lost.)

The chemistry of souls that share it all.
(The joining and the parting and the fall.)
A mist of love in colors of the fall.
(The rising up again. The starting small.)

The moment when you just can't start again.
(A weakness, but you can't remember when.)
A face within the looking glass.
(The wrinkles of a youth that fades too fast.)

Aches and pains. The falling rain.
(The winters seem too soon, too cold, too rash.)
The silence caught in lonely feelings.
(Letting go. The truth revealing.)

They never tried to understand.
(The cold is tingling in their hands.)
Humanity that fails to forgive.
(Too great, the loss of love that's never lived...)
