No Longer There

They tried to find what was no longer there.
Invisible, a susurration of the swollen air.
Moved by a despicable despair.
Demoralized by movies playing
more than black and white into their minds.
Symbols turned into a selling sign.
Wreaking havoc - turning, twisting time.
No one believed the doctors were insane.
One by one, absorbing all their blame.
Torn by wracking disability.
Unable to control the breaking free.
Chemical, the overdosed behavior
of people who had lost the reason why.
Skies blustering in solitary sighs.
If only they could feel their youth again.
Drifting through their dreaming years.
Where only love remained a true companion.
Running far away from the demanding
rush and volume of the crowd.
Until the labyrinths of time turned back
to live within their weary eyes.
Yet they still tried to find
what was no longer there.
Invisible, a susurration of the swollen air.
A stench of rotting meat too sweet to share.
There really wasn't anybody there...
