the chill of winter abates
for yet another day or two
and the birds fly through the sky
in an unabashed celebration of joy

while the willows
who yet retain their leaves
despite first frost
flow with the warmer winds
streaming through their leaves
like silken hair afloat on air

a reprieve and reminder
that spring will come again
