He lived within a lair of
aliens
that took him in when he
was lost
in days of long ago
yet he no longer feels
he owes them everything
for he has grown
within a greater evolution
that his keepers' race
had yet to come to know
and in his heart a symphony
of song would open out
incessantly repeating and
replete
whispering upon the wind
at night, when all the aliens
would sleep
when he saw beyond the life
they lived
and came to know the starry
skies
in softly sifting lullabies
that filled all of his dreams
but alien in nature
they lived and breathed an
air
of unearthly and unseemly
quiet
yet unspoken desperation
seemed to fill the atmosphere
and thus they kept him there
beyond his want or will
by the force of all
their childish neediness
while his soul began to suffer
from the air of their composure
while deep inside
his heart began to bleed
the purest kind of agony
for these aliens knew not
of love
nor cared for its experience
yet in his heart a symphony
of song would open out
incessantly repeating and
replete
whispering upon the wind
at night, when all the aliens
would sleep
when he saw beyond the life
they lived
and came to know the starry
skies
in softly sifting lullabies
that filled all of his dreams
Alien, their attitudes of
power minus love
almost savage in their customs
of ceremonial surrender
to an ancient, tribal custom
of mystique
composed by molten minds
that only knew
one thought, one way, at
end of day
to lead to dreams that never
change
as even night became no more
than evolving misery
and so he struggled to be
free
and sing this song
that rang his heart
into reality . . .
