Archetypal Death

A young child’s voice, in waking dream
floats through curtained window
looking for a father figure
that simply wasn’t there

Death of image of the mind
when fear replaces emptiness
as youth re-searches endlessly
for inner power withdrawn

receding to the underworld
where shadowy figures lurk
and prey upon the innocence
of youth without a path to follow

Disembodied voice of child
whispers in the wind
voicing fear unspeakable
with one inspired, hopeless word

softly calling “Daddy”
And all the awful need unmet
in modern world ignoring soul
drifts eerily to consciousness
