Beyond the Mists

What was life like
before this fright
of yours took hold of me?

in those halcyon and quiet
days and nights
in which we loved
when the earth below
and sky above rang true
with the feeling of the new
in everything

and allowing all of this
we dared to steal a kiss
beneath the sunlight streaming
and in the day, found dreaming
did exist
there, beyond the mists
of fear's illusions

When did love become
a feeling to run from?
as time and mind took hold
and winning games
became the blame beheld

What magical illusion
did you invoke
to thus undo
a love so true?

Today beneath
these halcyon skies
I seek the answer why
even as I wonder
that you choose to stay
so far away . . .
