Flight of Form

How tremulous, this love we share
shall we continue, do we dare?
defy the vast authority
that tells us how we ought to be

to reach within and touch the stars
to bridge the gap 'tween near and far
or will we settle once again
for less than what we could have been

and tell ourselves those preformed lies
that sound so much like alibis
that duty somehow comes before
the urge to love and more

by focusing on habits born
by those who have been duly sworn
to uphold patterns without worth
that seek control o'er death and birth

yet truly, what can we control?
within the universal whole
if not ourselves within the mesh
of mind and spirit, heart and flesh

that yearns for feel of coming home
beyond the duly noted, known
when souls take flight within the form
of forever being born
