Forgive Us

Forgive us, Mother Earth
for we have sinned
against your very countenance
unutterable remorse remains
to be released
before we can regain
your blessed peace
and love of all of life

and thunder crashes in these skies
for the gift of flight rejected
by eyes that could not see beyond
these bodies that reflected
only gross manipulation
of the matter and the meaning
you presented

Hear the eagle screaming
of a better way to see
than one to one
for all that is this world
is born of thee
and we are nothing if not free
to be the beat of thy own living heart

Oh, living breathing Mother of us all
we walk upon your breast
treading paths upon this quest
of love that surely can forgive
even our grandiloquent inequity

and finally the day has come
to beg for your forgiveness
for us all . . .
