Is There a Difference?

Are we really so different?
or is what you seek what I have sought
and found at times to lose again
so that I would keep striving
to find again
to lose again
to try again
one of the basic circles of life
But even in my darkest hours
I always knew it was there for me
my home, my soul, my destiny

Are we really so different?
or is what you feel what I have felt
the love, the hate - the joy, the pain
and every emotion in between
the anger at society
and the source of every destiny
to fan the flame of hope
only to see it smothered
and rekindled
and in rare moment burning bright
But no matter the times it was smothered
the ember never cooled
Another basic circle

Are we really so different?
or is what you fear what I have feared
afraid of belonging
afraid of befriending
afraid of the pain of real relating
yet not wishing to relinquish joy
seeking comfort, avoiding strain
daring to love
and lose again
and love again
Life in endless circles

Are we really so different?
or is what you seek what I have sought
the peace of the center
beyond the polarities of opposition
to find serenity
and lose it again
and find it again
This circle spirals to the center

Are we really so different?
or do you look through others' eyes
as I have done
to see a different point of view
to blend the variations
seeking only to understand
to know
to question
to learn again
An intriguing circle, don't you agree?

So tell me
how on earth
can we really be so different?
