More Than Sorrow

Grief is so much more than sorrow
tears alone cannot express
the depth
of loss involved

for like a raging river
of lava in our veins
it burns, it aches in pain
in a course right through the core

and it's not until the sorrow
and the underlying rage are met
that we forget
the pain of being torn apart
from what we held as dear

and only then
will sweet memories start
to open up our hearts
and fill our days

while a sigh
a sense of bittersweet
repeats
all that we have learned

We live, we love
our spirit burns
the pain away

if only we allow
the process to evolve
within ourselves . . .
