Setting Free

From where it comes, it shall return
within the pyre the feelings burn
and ash is scattered to the wind
while all the rigid fear unbends

The patterns end as sunshine spills
upon the mourning whippoorwill
and leaves who give their life will fly
in freedom, through the morning sky

while mother earth lies fallow, still
and with the wind, a winter chill
will cool the ever-burning fire
of father-figure's funeral pyre

The pure, sweet sadness will endure
beyond the will of those held dear
until his spirit softly whispers
through the long lost days of tears

when fear dispersed, the love unbound
surrounds a family finally found
