Silent Vigil

I should be sleeping
the hour is late
yet still I wait

for answers illusive
that refuse to be caught
and I wonder why

the nighttime sky
seems so unaffected
by it all

as starlight streams
within the dream
of this awakening

while the moon glows gold
against the deepest blue
as my thoughts drift back to you

remembering the days
when love was bright
and shone within the nights
of our embrace

while emotions echo
in a constant hum, intense
that makes no sense
in light of day

yet the moon knows
and the light grows
as I seek her silent answers
on the wind

and the willow weeps
for all alone
even as I keep
this silent vigil
of the night
