Snowbound

As the cold North winds
turn raindrops into ice
and nothing is allowed to move
but the snow
in great drifts building
walls that keep me here
in solitude to contemplate
your absence in my life

Silence surrounds me
amid the howling wind
as I realize
that you and I
were never meant to be
any more than summer's memory

The chill of your absence
reaches to the very core of me
as slowly but surely
you drain me of the love
that is my life

like the North wind
that blows all warmth away
and if I allow this interplay
continuance in time
I will surely waste away
for nothing will remain
for me but pain

and the echoes of a would-be love
are now lost in the howl
of the cold North wind
that keeps me here alone

snowbound. . .
