Soul Who Dares

Like a puppet on a string
we move and dance and sing
to the commands of every other
as our spirit slowly smothers

What power will it take?
with our very soul at stake
to change the patterns of behavior
that have us play the role of savior

Patterns learned in days of youth
but now these man-made truths
must fade away
for seen within the light of day

they fail the test of reasoned thought
and now that intuition's draught
is finally at an end
what will we keep, what will we send

back to the source of all this pain
when this sweet release will be the gain
of all that we once gave away
for we reclaim our soul today

and cut the strings
once thought to bring
the equilibrium we need
but equilibrium is free

a gift of grace
as time and space
give way to the experience
of the improvisation of the dance
of life
