Surge of Peace

Explosions in the middle-east
and suddenly a surge of peace
arises in the night
covering the gruesome sights
of war's decree

How is it that
we can forget
the innocence destroyed
by bombs that we deploy
in battles rage?

How do we sleep
as parents weep
in pain of loss imparted
by a war they never started
yet must live?

yet age-old battles linger on
in repetition built upon
the anger that the multitude denies
and no matter how we try to hide
our guilt

or justify by twisted reason
the urges of the killing season
death is death, and pain is pain
distorted by the loss and gain
of life
