To Let Her Go

Time flows on into eternity
with ne'er a moment lost
as he sits alone in silence
wondering at the suffering
that thoughts of endlessness can bring
to one who has forgotten how to love

when once again
she arises in his mind
in undiluted memories
of timelessness and feeling free
but now, what good eternity
without her there?

and yet, if even in a memory
his love for her lives on
the meaning can return time and again
to touch his heart just when
he feels the most alone

and there within those memories
she flies, free as the breeze
returning every time he calls her name
and this, because he had the heart
to simply let her go . . .
