To Love the Night

The night is alive

We move
and breath
and love
even in the darkness

Intimacy is easier
under cover of night
Defects need not be overlooked
when they are never seen

Beauty does not become awe
and leave the other
standing back
to gaze in distant admiration

In the night
we can touch
unafraid of criticism
and useless rules
of how we ought to be

I am I and you are you
Together we shine in the darkness
creating a brightness within

and the love thus brought into being
rains down upon us again
in the world of waking men

leaving trails of stardust
in the wake of our passing

while wondering hearts
will be warmed just a little
because we dared the darkness
of a very bright night
