Too Serious

Too serious
these days and nights
that once were spent in sheer delight
yet now the weight of past relations
assumes a pose of background static
assimilating sounds of love
into the reservoir of their despair

Where once we used to play
more and more your bonds
and bounds of every day
seem to come between
the joy we shared

and I wonder if you'll ever dare
let go the ties that bind
your heart and soul to culture's mind
now, within the night
and there, within the days so bright
that you seek to shield your eyes
from the light of spirit's truth

Too serious
these days and nights
of spirit's sacrifice . . .
